Gerry, the question at the top of the pictures, asks which do you think are acceptable to send. Then if you click on the link below the pictures, you will see that stickers are acceptable to send. Would love to see a post with pics/video of creative things that sponsors have sent that are mailable.
While you may suggest how a gift should be used, the final decision for what is needed most is made by the family with the advisement of a child development center staff member. You may want to feature an animal each week, and at the end of four weeks you will have enough to give a whole barnyard of animals to a Compassion-sponsored child. When all financial donations have been tallied, celebrate the results at a farm-themed activity.
What Can I Mail to the Child I Sponsor?
All travel outside of the United States requires a valid passport, so it is important that you don’t delay in securing this document. You may choose to go through an agency or through the post office. You can obtain a passport application and instructions on how to apply online here. Compassion arranges visits to every country where we work. You may also want to leave a little room in your luggage to bring some gifts to your child and their family.
This information is usually on your compassion.com account, or you could call. They will assign you another child once she has graduated. I would think she would have told you in your letters back and forth how far she is in school, but even if she graduated school, she hasn’t necessarily graduated Compassion yet. Please don’t drop her when she is just about to finish. I think that would be really upsetting to her.

I am unsettled about not knowing what is happening to my gifts. I am so sorry for all the confusion regarding the letter guidelines. It seems like to me that the items that you sent should all go through just fine. For confirmation, please know that the only physical items that are able to be sent are musical and pop-up cards, bookmarks and stickers.

Although many donations are given as meaningful Christmas gifts, the needs are present all year long and may be given any time for any reason. Currently, there are more than 2 million children in the Child Development Program. In order to eradicate the debilitating factors that perpetuate the cycle of poverty, we have special funds that can be used on demand to meet qualified needs. For example, your generosity gives us the agility to respond to sudden, catastrophic needs as well as routine, ancillary educational expenses or income-generating opportunities. We may be able to assist your children. Please email us at for more information.
Stickers that Unleash Adventure
Hi Shaina, I recently found books at Barnes & Noble within the size range and thickness allowed that teach kids about things like the earth/trees/plants/atmosphere/animals/etc. These books are not hard bound but I have found some I’ve sent as my child asked about snow and I found a Dr. Seuss book within the measurements and hard bound. Some sponsors may not know Compassion has an album you can buy for $5. And I have a few I’ve started where I save all my children’s letters. Regrettably, while we can send up to five coloring pages, we cannot send a full coloring book at a time. Your coloring pages also need to have a short note or letter attached on a separate sheet of paper to be sent through.
The older the kids we sponsor get, the less inclined I feel to send things I’ve always sent, like color pages, and empty paper. If you want to send special remembrances or cultural items like photos, maps, post cards, etc. it makes sense to do that. But for the cost of sending a larger gift, you could send the child some money as a gift and they could buy what they really need. Find 10 Father’s Day gift ideas that will last a lifetime!
Enter your email address to receive a regular newsletter from Compassion with inspirational stories, poverty news and more. Not so,., it says that ‘all of the above items are NOT eligible to send’. It says that NONE of these items are acceptable.
However, it definitely depends on Eg’s center and how quickly they are able to process everything. My friend still has most of her family in the Philippines and they mentioned they may be able to take a few small gifts by the center for Eg. Is this possible, and if so, is there a way for me to get the address of the center.
You are also welcome to send your sponsored child monetary gifts and he or she will get to choose something that they need or want. I have called Compassion about this and I still am not getting what I feel is a good answer. I became a sponsor in November of 2017.
They have posters with bible verses, games and mazes, coloring pages, bible stories, and science articles. Our sponsored child’s favorites are the articles about animals, which has piqued her interest in science. I do see that you sent sweet little Celeste a few gifts in March. 🙂 She should be writing you a letter indicating what she purchased with these gifts. If you do not hear back after six months of sending this gift, let us know and we are able to send an inquiry over to the field staff.
It’s possible that you would only receive two letters per year; however, children do respond to their sponsors’ letters every sixty days, so you could receive as many as five or six letters per year. You should never go more than six months without hearing from your child. How often a child attends a center depends on the age of the child and each center’s specific guidelines, but the average for each child is eight hours per week. This could be all on one day on a weekend, or split up throughout the week. You should also receive a thank-you letter and photo within six months of sending that $60 gift to your child.
So I buy French children’s books, I rip the covers off and pull apart the pages and send them with a staple in the top corner. I haven’t heard anything from Compassion so I assume they go through. I like the educational ones like about space or bees. As long as they are paper and fit within the size guidelines, you can send them to your child.
